RBHS Band to Perform in Chicago Thanksgiving Parade
Riverside Brookfield High School’s Marching Band has been selected to perform in the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade on Thanksgiving Day. This is the first time in school history that the band will be performing at the parade. In order to be considered to march in the parade, schools must apply online and submit videos of the band marching, as well as pictures of the band in their uniforms.
James Baum, Band Director at RBHS, said a representative from the parade reached out to him to ask him to apply and was happy to hear they were interested in his application. “I immediately called Matthew Loeb and Dawn Lizak and told them that this seems like a great opportunity and they agreed that I should apply,” said Baum. Matthew Loeb is the Assistant Band Director and Dawn Lizak is the Color Guard Coordinator. “I then ran it by a couple of the Music and Theatre Sponsor parents and they were supportive of the idea, too.”
The RBHS Music and Theatre Sponsors is a parent and community organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the RBHS music, theatre, and technical production of those programs. “We are thrilled that RB’s marching band has been invited to perform in the 2023 Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade. It's a point of pride to have the marching band represent our school in this high-profile, regional event,” said Lisa Janunas, President of the RBHS Music and Theater Sponsors Board. “There's nothing like performing outside of the school campus to create lasting memories as students, musicians and representatives of the Riverside and Brookfield communities.”
The parade will take place on Thursday, November 23, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. CT. More information about the parade can be found on the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade website.
