Truth in Taxation: Information on the District's proposed 2024 Tax Levy

A public hearing to approve a proposed property tax levy increase for Riverside Brookfield Township High School District 208, Cook County, Illinois for 2024 will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in Room 201 of the high school at 160 Ridgewood Road, Riverside, IL 60546.  Any person desiring to appear at the public hearing and present testimony to the taxing district may contact Dr. Kristin Smetana, Assistant Superintendent, Riverside Brookfield Township High School, 160 Ridgewood Road, Riverside, Illinois, telephone number 708-442-7500.

The proposal is to approve a levy increase of 4.95 percent in order to capture the maximum amount of taxes on any new property. District 208 is tax capped by the consumer price index for levy year 2024. This year’s CPI figure to be used for levy year 2024 is 3.4%. The draft proposal is to approve a levy increase of 4.95 percent in order to capture the 3.4% (CPI) increase plus any taxes on new property. The county will reduce our levy based on the actual new property amount which will be determined next July.  The new property trend has shown an average of 1.6 million dollars in new growth for the past 3 years.  Historically the District has received CPI and has captured any taxes associated with new property by levying 4.95 percent.
